George Clooney to host an MTV telethon in aid of Haiti

Clooney previously used his celebrity to highlight the Darfur crisis George Clooney is to host a telethon to raise money for the victims of the Haiti earthquake, as Hollywood opens its pockets to help the relief effort. The event, which will feature pleas for cash from US celebrities, will be broadcast on MTV on 22 January. It has been reported that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have lead donations with a $1m (£612,000) pledge from their charitable foundation. The earthquake has left an estimated 50,000 dead on the island. There are few details about who will join Clooney on the telethon, but various celebrities have already called for urgent donations to help the estimated three million left injured and homeless following the disaster. On Wednesday, Haiti-born hip-hop musician Wyclef Jean, announced on micro-blogging site Twitter that he was travelling to the stricken island and called on fans to donate money to his Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund. It's been reported the former Fugees star has already raised more than $1m (£612,000) for the disaster relief effort. Coldplay singer Chris Martin has asked for donations through Oxfam and the charity's global ambassador Scarlett Johansson, also appealed for contributions. Oprah Winfrey and Ben Stiller have both made appeals and champion cyclist Lance Armstrong's LiveStrong Foundation pledged $250,000 (£153,000) to help Haiti's recovery. (my view) How and why is this sort of thing ALWAYS in the entertainment sections of the media?.........soooooooo....lives being lost and catastrophe's ARE entertainment to these fuckers? and why in hell do the"Celebs"jump on the band wagon to show that they are helping......you can bet they are being paid to do this stuff(it always happens behind the scenes....and its been proven by investigator's time and time again) i tell you why they do these"Charity"work..because its more PR for them and to increase their status.....you know what friends......i hurts my brain to figure people out(i can see right through people and see what they REALLY are up to)and why do they want to use their"Celeb"status to HIGHLIGHT the situation(when infact they want THEIR face out there)........i think the earthquake has HIGHLIGHTED the situation already don't you think........fuckkkkk people are really thick and stupid. (i feel like my brains going to explode with to much intelligence)

N-Dubz star Dappy 'sorry' over text message threats

N-Dubz star Dappy has apologised to a woman for sending her threatening text messages, after she contacted BBC Radio 1 expressing her dislike for the band. Chloe Moody texted The Chris Moyles Show while the band were being interviewed, calling them "losers" and labelling Dappy "repulsive". But she was shocked to receive a message the following day from rapper Dappy saying: "Your [sic] gonna die". The BBC said Dappy took down Ms Moody's number without producers' knowledge. Ms Moody, from Boston, Lincolnshire, texted the Radio 1 show while in the car with her mother. She said she was "shocked" to receive the text messages and phone calls from the rapper the following day. "I missed two calls from a number I didn't recognise, so I texted back asking who it was, and I got a text saying 'your gonna die'." The message went on to say: "U sent a very bad msg towards Ndubz on The Chris Moyels [sic] Show yesterday Morning and for that reason u will never be left alone!!! If u say sorry I will leave you alone." Ms Moody added: "I was wracking my brains trying to work out who it was, as I didn't tell anyone I had texted the radio show. "I didn't think it would be him because I seriously didn't think he'd be bothered." When Ms Moody did eventually answer his call she said she faced further insults. "He was just ranting, saying 'why are you saying this about me?'. If I had had a number one single and got a message from a nobody to a radio station I would not be too concerned. It obviously hit a nerve." 'Genuinely sorry' Despite making an apology through his management, who also offered her free N-Dubz concert tickets, Ms Moody said Dappy was yet to text her personally to say sorry. Mobo-winners N-Dubz - Dappy and his bandmates Tulisa and Fazer - hit the top 10 with their second album, Against All Odds, last month. They also featured on Tinchy Stryder's chart-topping dance track Number 1 last year. In a statement, Dappy - real name Dino Contostavlos - said: "I called her in the heat of the moment when I was angry, but that is no excuse for my behaviour. "I'm genuinely sorry. I'd also like to send my sincerest apologies to Radio 1." A BBC spokeswoman said: "He must have taken the number down from the production team's text console in the studio. "We were unaware of this, but will take steps to ensure it doesn't happen again." Last November, Dappy joined Schools Secretary Ed Balls to launch a Government campaign against "cyber-bullying" over mobile phones and the internet. At the time, Mr Balls welcomed the release of an N-Dubz track called "RU Cyber Safe" as part of anti-bullying week and hailed the group as "great ambassadors" in the fight against bullies.
I called her in the heat of the moment when I was angry, but that is no excuse for my behaviour-Dappy

Kodak sues Apple and RIM over iPhone and Blackberry

Camera maker Kodak has said it will sue Apple and Research In Motion (RIM), the makers of the iPhone and Blackberry, over technology used in their handsets. Kodak has filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC). It alleges the iPhone and Blackberry use technology for previewing pictures that infringe Kodak patents. It has also filed two separate suits against Apple that claim infringements of patents relating to digital cameras and certain computer processes. Kodak has asked the ITC to bar both firms from shipping the phones and has asked for undisclosed monetary damages. RIM and Apple declined to comment.
Legal scrutiny
"We've had discussions for years with both companies in an attempt to resolve this issue amicably, and we have not been able to reach a satisfactory agreement," said Laura Quatela, chief intellectual property officer at Kodak. "In light of that, we are taking this action to ensure that we protect the interests of our shareholders and the existing licensees of our technology." The patent for Kodak's picture previewing technology has already been the subject of one dispute. On 17 December 2009, an ITC judge ruled that camera-enabled phones made by Samsung infringed upon the Kodak patent. The separate filing against Apple has also been scrutinised in court in a case against Sun Microsystems. In that case, a federal jury determined that Sun's Java programming technology had infringed Kodak's patents. Sun later agreed to pay Kodak in return for a license for the patents at issue. Apple is currently in the middle of a legal dispute with phone giant Nokia. In October, Nokia alleged that the iPhone infringed 10 of its "fundamental" patents relating to wireless technologies. Apple countered with its own lawsuit in December, accusing Nokia of copying its technology. Since then Nokia has complained to the ITC and launched a further legal action that alleges "virtually all" of Apple's products infringe on its patents.(my view)-O'comeooooooon.......money money money!......that's all you care about!there's wars, murders and worse things going on in this world MORE important than PREVIEWING pictures on your phone or camera

Robert Pattinson to be Spider-Man?

Robert Pattinson may be taking over Tobey Maguire's role as superhero Spider-Man. Rumours are rife that the Twilight hunk might leave his fangs behind for another blockbuster franchise, now that Tobey has announced he won't be doing the fourth film - but Sony Pictures and Columbia refused to confirm the stories. "Our first step is to find a director," they told Entertainment Tonight. Earlier this week, Tobey and director Sam Raimi both announced they would not be back for the next movie. "Working on the Spider-Man movies was the experience of a lifetime for me," said Sam. "While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job." The next Spider-Man movie, which will see Spider-Man's alter-ego Peter Parker at high school, is expected to be released in 2012.
