Knife blade 'found in baby shoes'

A discount clothes chain is investigating claims that an inch-long knife blade was found in a pair of baby shoes bought at one of its stores. New father Steven Varley bought the shoes for his four-day-old son Oscar from a Primark store in Chatham, Kent, and described the discovery as "horrendous". Mr Varley, from Folkestone, said he hurt his finger as he took the paper packaging out of the second shoe. He told BBC Kent: "I thought it was a lace I then pulled on the piece of paper and inside the shoe was this razor-sharp blade.

"It's horrendous."

A spokeswoman for Primark said: "Primark is extremely concerned to hear this news and the company is taking urgent action to investigate this issue. "The company cannot comment in detail on this complaint until its inquiries are complete, but the company apologises to the customer for any distress this must have caused. "Primark will of course keep the customer informed about the progress and outcome of its inquiries."

Woman's virginity offer not illegal

A teenager who says she auctioned her virginity online for £24,000 to raise tuition money did not break any laws but it might be risky for her to follow through on the deal, according to police. The anonymous 19-year-old student, who lives in New Zealand, offered her virginity to the highest bidder on www.ineed.co.nz under the name "Unigirl", saying the money will pay her university fees. She said in a post that around 30,000 people had viewed her advert and more than 1,200 had bid. She accepted an offer of 45,000 New Zealand dollars (£24,000).(my view)-
