'Oldest duck' Edwina dies aged 22

--Edwina was saved as a duckling from being killed by her family-- A 22-year-old tea drinking mallard, thought to be one of the oldest recorded living ducks, has died. Edwina was rescued by Ian Knight and Christine Christopher two decades ago after she was almost pecked to death by her family. The couple, from Ringwood, Hampshire, initially called her Edward but changed her name when she started to lay eggs. Mr Knight said Edwina, who died on Monday, had been buried in their garden under an ornamental duck as a memorial.

He said that when he first discovered Edwina she was being attacked by her family as she was the "runt of the litter". The family rescued her, but when Mr Knight attempted to release her back into the wild she followed him home and had lived with the family ever since. Edwina also became fond of tea and toast, which she would have for breakfast in the family home where she spent time living in the garden and garage. Mr Knight told BBC News the family was "devastated". "She wasn't well over Christmas because of the cold spell we have been having and her legs became a bit wobbly. "We were going to take her to the vet after the holidays but we found her inside her little house. "It was going to happen eventually but it's like losing one of your family, I have had her since she was only a few days old." Edwina was buried in the family's garden in a box, with an ornamental duck placed on top of her final resting place as a memorial. The British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) said the oldest known wild mallard in the UK is 20 years and five months. The oldest known wigeon stands at 34 years, the oldest gadwall at 21 and the oldest teal at just over 18 years. But the oldest wild duck on record is a sea-duck called Eider at 35 years and six months. The birds' ages have been calculated through the BTO's ringing scheme.

HP responds to 'racist computer' accusation-Follow up post

That video that we showed you yesterday (video not posted by me as i do not want brown people to play the race card on my blog)made it appear that the HP MediaSmart PC with facial recognition doesn't work with black people. HP responded to that assertion, blaming bad lighting for the PC's inability to follow the face of that cool guy who demonstrated it so aptly in the video: The technology we use is built on standard algorithms that measure the difference in intensity of contrast between the eyes and the upper cheek and nose. We believe that the camera might have difficulty "seeing" contrast in conditions where there is insufficient foreground lighting. Indeed, it's a tall order to achieve the proper exposure on the face of a dark-skinned person while surrounded by intense backlighting — in this case, the bright fluorescent fixtures clearly visible in the background. However, in the screen cap we grabbed above, the exposure on the man's face is adequate, yet the face tracking still wasn't functioning. We think HP needs to rebuild its "standard algorithms." (my view)-i agree with this comments on the website that this article is from"Are you freaking kidding me? Man, some people will look for racism anywhere. Yeah, I'm sure they have a corporate policy not to have facial recognition for black people- Give it up, DVICE. Leave HP alone. Stupid"....another one....."Sorry Matthias: but there were a number of instances where the glare on Wanda's face was WAY brighter than her eyes and it was still able to follow her. Even when her eyes were just about all dark on screen it was still able to follow her".....another thing he forgot to meantion.....he can turn to tracking on and off while recording.......i BET theres someone or they are pressing the button to turn it on and off........he's racist.......fucking stop it
