Obama to push nuclear disarmament

The Shit On A Stick US President Barack Obama is to call for an end to nuclear arms and the spread of the technology behind them, at an historic UN session. In the first security council meeting chaired by the US, Mr Obama will present a resolution seeking "a world without nuclear weapons". The meeting comes a day after Mr Obama's debut UN speech, in which he warned of a nuclear arms race. It also comes amid growing concerns over Iran's nuclear ambitions. The draft resolution reaffirms the council's commitment "to seek a safer world for all and to create the conditions for a world without nuclear weapons," the Associated Press reported. It does not specifically mention countries by name, such as North Korea and Iran, but reaffirms previous Security Council resolutions relating to their nuclear plans. Iran's nuclear programme has been criticised by the US and five nations who are set to hold talks next week. Iran says its nuclear ambitions are for peaceful energy purposes, but others fear it is developing weapons. Also on Thursday, a UN conference on a 1996 treaty banning nuclear bomb tests will begin with a speech by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Her appearance is the first US participation at the biannual conference since 1999 when the US Senate refused to ratify the treaty. On Wednesday, the first day of the United Nations General Assembly, Iran's plans came under fire. French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Iranian leaders were "making a tragic mistake" if they thought the international community would not respond. UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown warned Iran - and North Korea - that the world would be even tougher on proliferation. In his speech on Wednesday, President Obama said: "For decades, we averted disaster, even under the shadow of a super-power stand-off. But today, the threat of proliferation is growing in scope and complexity. "If we fail to act, we will invite nuclear arms races in every region, and the prospect of wars and acts of terror on a scale that we can hardly imagine." Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signalled that Moscow might be prepared to soften its opposition to sanctions against Iran over its nuclear plans. But the Chinese foreign ministry has said that increasing pressure on Iran would not be effective. In his speech, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spoke of countries which undermined the development of other nations under the pretext of preventing arms proliferation. Nude Germans want right to roam

Germany is traditionally tolerant of nudity, but a plan to give naked ramblers their own wilderness path is still some way from the sunny uplands. A campsite manager, Heinz Ludwig, aims to establish Germany's first official naked ramblers' footpath - an 18km (11-mile) route in the Harz Mountains. "But some people are against - it is not directly supported by the community," he told BBC News. "I want people to calm down, then we'll try again next year." But he says fans of Freikoerperkultur - Free Body Culture, or FKK for short - have expressed support for the scheme. It would attract naturists to the Wippra and Dankerode areas, in the central German mountain range. Fully-clothed walkers would be free to use the path, too. "It's a secluded area, away from traffic," Mr Ludwig said. "In the GDR [former communist East Germany] people used to bathe there, too." He says some keen naturists have already tested the trail. The plan is to open it officially next May. A sign has been put up warning those averse to naturism that they might prefer to go elsewhere. "If you don't want to see people with nothing on then you should refrain from moving on," it reads. Broadband Tax-Taxing The Net

A controversial broadband tax should be law before the next election, according to Minister for Digital Britain Stephen Timms. The 50 pence a month tax will apply to everyone with a fixed line telephone. Speaking at a debate in London, Mr Timms said the tax will be presented to parliament as part of the Finance Bill. But the Tory MP John Whittingdale said the tax, which could raise up to £175m a year to fund high speed networks, would be opposed by the Conservatives. "I'm confident the Conservative party will oppose it. I object to it on the basis that it is another tax and is aimed at people who are using old technology," said Mr Whittingdale, who is also chair of the DCMS (Department for Culture, Media and Sport) select committee. Speaking at a debate organised by The BCS Chartered Institute for IT (formerly the British Computer Society), Mr Timms reiterated the government's commitment to the levy and the other recommendations of Lord Carter's Digital Britain report. "We want to make high speed networks nationally available. The next-generation fund will help that and we will legislate for it this side of a general election," he said.-No derailment-He told BBC News that the other recommendations of the Digital Britain report would "be built on" in the Digital Economy Bill, which will be presented to parliament in November. There have been concerns in recent months that the Digital Britain report, which was unveiled in June, has been derailed. Business Secretary, Lord Mandelson, has intervened to beef up the government policy on illegal file-sharing, which could include removing persistent offenders from the net. Mr Timms denied the report had been sidelined. "Nothing has been derailed. Fucking awesome movie,but humans are so specist,the aliens didn't want to fight,they were and are starving and needed a home,but they were/are treated like scum....and the age old truthism thats the government experimenting on them,ripping them open,using them for target practise,stealing the aliens weapons to use for their own use off,...makes me sick that the government has NO SOUL and can do as they wish....makes me so ill,but all in all....a good movie.me and barbara watched the DVD last night:) a must see!
