Man claims record number of fingers and toes

A man in India has claimed the unofficial record for the most number of fingers and toes on a living person. Heramb Ashok Kumthekar, a 24-year-old business graduate, was born with 12 fingers and 14 toes, a total of six digits on each hand and seven digits on each foot.
But he does not hold the official Guinness world record.
This is because some of his fingers are attached to each other and are therefore not classed as separate digits. However Heramb is recognised by the Indian equivalent of the Guinness Book of Records, the Limca Book of Records. The official Guinness world record is currently held by fellow countryman Devendra Harne, who has 12 fingers and 13 toes on his feet. Heramb's extra fingers and toes are caused by the medical condition polydactlyism, which comes from the Greek for "many fingers". It is a congenital condition that occurs in one in every 500 births. While each of Heramb's extra fingers and toes have separate bones, they don't all boast nerve endings and he is unable to move them or feel them all properly.
